Downtown Bakersfield Business Group To Take On Redevelopment

The state took away redevelopment agencies, but Bakersfield Downtown Business Association officials say they will start up a new program to keep improving the city’s core.

DBA redevelopment chairman Bob Bell said they got some inspiration at a recent state association meeting.

“We learned that they’ve formulated some new vehicles, and the DBA is going to take that vehicle and move forward, and hopefully build an association unlike what Bakersfield has ever seen,” he said Monday. It’s a two-prong plan, with both a nonprofit and a holding company.

The federal courthouse currently under construction on 19th Street is taking new shape everyday. Recent walls have been lifted into place and cranes can be seen at the site often. Downtown Bakersfield is seeing a tremendous push toward revival and the courthouse located between S and R Streets will be a major boost to the aesthetic appeal of our skyline. The building will also create a wonderful new background for visitors to Central Park’s Mill Creek area.
