Recently it came to my attention that I work for free… or at least a few seem to think that I should. You see, I own this business. I’ve had it since 1987. I have overhead, and always have. Things like office space, utilities, bills to pay, payroll to meet, projects to complete for paying clients that require the services of vendors and sub-contractors. You know the average things that the typical business owner has dangling over their head every single day. Why is it then that there are those (especially in my industry), that feel compelled to seek my advice, but aren’t willing to pay for it, or once I’ve advised them, they take the knowledge I provide and prevail it upon themselves to “DIY” the project without retaining our services?

We feel so lucky to have had the Invest From the Ground Up campaign in Bakersfield. The campaign awoke an understanding in Bakersfield about how can make our downtown stronger and more vibrant. The transformation was demonstrate clearly by the fact that businesses started requesting trees while previously there was only hot sidewalks for years.
